Marina G. Guerreiro: Given Time at Intersticio. Open until 18 December, information here.Ā
For her first solo exhibition in the UK, Marina G. Guerreiro gives us treasures. Found objects collected on walks around her neighbourhood are oozing with pastel coloured wax. Piles of paper, rocks, jewellery and sheaths of wheat are reminiscent of props from fantastical childrenās games, their meaning recontextualised and reconstituted to bear a deeply personal significance. Assembled and covered in a thick sheen of wax, the sculptures take on an otherworldly, mysteriously quality, organic and sublime, as if plucked from a long-undisturbed cave. As their original function and form is concealed and reimagined, the purpose of these object-sculptures is left to our imaginations.
