🎛️ “He is consumed by chairs” – For the cover of GQ, art house anti-hero Robert Pattinson discusses making ambient music in his batsuit, DC’s emo vibe and shaping the zeitgeist. We are obsessed with the accompanying shoot, photographed by Jack Bridgland, art directed by Hensel Martinez and impeccably styled by Mobolaji Dawodu.
🐦⬛ “The rise of Bluesky is a RELAPSE not a FIX” – after a decade and a half of dominance, social media is finally cracking, with users getting fed up with its insidious effects on our social and political lives !! As August Lamm tweeted: ”Can’t wait for AI to fully saturate social media, rendering it confusing & meaningless, just bots talking to bots, setting us free, letting us log off & thrive” !
🇰🇵 “Young People, Follow the Beloved Leader” – We were tickled by David Howe’s paintings of Mark Zuckerberg, in the style of North Korean propaganda art. The highly staged, pastel-hued works are littered with coca-cola cans, Gatorade bottles and iPhones, riffing on their North-Korean counterparts in a way which is uncanny and humorous all at once ! wholesome
🚬 “the state of the world, the state of England, borders, ethno-nationalism, and bombs” – Artnet’s Jo Lawson Tancred interviews Pete Doherty about his practice, with some iconic moments. Providing insight into his blood paintings (yep) Doherty muses, “blood doesn’t stay red very long. The older it gets, the browner it gets. God knows what’s going on in there. What kind of DNA is mixing with what type of chemicals. It could be a whole new universe. Mini Pete Dohertys.” Is this piece fully tongue in cheek or just plain sincere? Read on to find out x
“He used to pilot a helicopter to work” – A chunky New Yorker profile on starchitect and designer of London’s most charismatic skyscraper (The Gherkin), Norman Foster. Ian Parker goes in on how Foster has been “financially rewarded in a way that no other professional architect ever has…”, positioning him as delightfully nefarious ! and kinda hot
Add-to-cart
Sue Tilley’s impossible-to-find biography on Leigh Bowery has been re-released ahead of the upcoming Tate exhibition on the iconic figure described by Boy George as ‘modern art on legs’, which is already set to be one of the shows of the year… Available here for £12.99
Parting shot 1
Due to the super icky nature of the monarchy and the British Empire, we can’t help but judge those who decide to accept Charles’ nomination to become Commanders of said empire, especially from artists who feign to have some kind of social conscience.. That said, we were delighted to see Tracey Emin sporting some super casual crocs to her ceremony, which begs the question – was she rocking socks with her crocs, or did she let the dogs hang out in Bucky P? What’s the etiquette on this one? Maybe Tatler can provide some insight…?
Anyway, fuck the monarchy, fuck the YBAs, up the crocs!
Parting shot 2
