Is it just us or has all the art news been a bit silly this week? Art is supposed to be serious !!! Thus we are looking forward to remedying the silly scale with some very serious exhibitions this week. We’ll be up in Kilburn on Thursday for Adam Farah-Saad’s show, before popping back to catch Philippa Snow’s book launch (which closes at 11pm!), and on Sat we are making a bee line for Union Pacific (apparently Tom Collins cocktails are being served, very sex and city xo), kicking off next week at local favourite (and recently-Guardian-certified!), Dinner for 100’s Dinner for Palestine in Nunhead.

🔎 “Undercover in the art world: what I found out working for dealers” – American journalist Bianca Bosker ‘infiltrates’ a series of US galleries, reporting back that the art world is ‘drug-fuelled, immoral, fraudulent’, that galleries spend lots of money on art fairs and that ‘not just anyone with money can buy a piece of art’. Bianca, we could have given you the low down in 5 mins, no need to go undercover for 5 years my dude.
💄“Painted white, new in town/You weren't hiring, but I was looking” – We were tickled to see that Vampire Weekend are as obsessed with art dealer / felon Mary Boone as we are. Releasing a track simply titled ‘Mary Boone’ this week, the indie idols prompted Boone to muse ‘Why did they do that? Does this mean I’m a vampire?’ as reported by Artnet. Iconic x
🥮 “Of course, I did things the wrong way,” says Philbrick. “But creatively” – Speaking of art-dealer-felons, the Vanity Fair article on Inigo Philbrick, former protege of Jay Jopling, is a must-read. Now released from jail, and $86 million in debt (!), Philbrick tells all in this profile which delves into his background of fraud, finsta account @steve_irwin_pets, and penchant for ‘amazing green tea taro cake’ while on the run from the FBI. Coming to our screens this summer, too, apparently!
🐔 “They told me I wasn’t ‘polite to guests.’ How can they kick you out of art school?” – We were saddened to hear of Richard Serra’s passing this week, having spent many good times squeezing through his steel structures. We recently discovered this Bomb magazine interview with the artist from 1994, where he spars with the interviewer David Seidner, complains about dumb viewers, and explains earthquake-proof art.
💀 “He’d burned out, but I could reenchant things” – This week we were graced with the ultimate pick-me article – The Case for Marrying an Older Man – and boy oh boy!! Some good old fashioned noughties journalism, putting marriage (and men) on a pedestal and chastising other women for not wanting it. At its core lies a pretty sexist and defeatist view that men just mature later than women, so rather than, y’know, expecting the men in your life to act like actual adults, just hang out with men 10 years older instead, simple! The claim that ‘we looked back at old photos and agreed we’d given each other our respective best years’ is giving big Picasso ‘I was in my prime, she was in her prime’ energy. Big Yikes!!!
🐾 “Fakery obsessed slap addicts” – Whenever we need a hit of reality TV, we don’t go anywhere near noughties programmes !! We were raised in a (media) den of iniquity, shockingly with real life implications – as this article on the popular ‘make-under’ show Snog Marry Avoid sketches out…yikes for us

News broke this week that Donald Judd’s estate was suing Kim Kardashian for falsely claiming the kitchen furniture at Skims HQ was designed by the late artist and designer. Kim’s interior designers, Clements Design, have been accused of faking Judd’s designs and passing them off as the real thing (For the best take on this, check out FOR SCALE’s ‘sletter: ‘THE JUDD FORCE": DEFENDERS OR TYRANTS?’). Nonetheless, we agree with Kardashian that the ‘Donald Judd tables are really amazing and totally blend in with the seats’. Now we totally want a set of our own!!
La Mansana table and Open Side Plywood Chair, price on request.

Hyperallergic went ham on the april fools this year, posting at least 4 on their insta on Monday, which came across a bit desperate. As with most jokes, some were funnier than others, and some were a bit…tragic
