**IN RESPONSE TO EDDY FRANKEL**

We read Eddy Frankel’s piece in TimeOut listing the best young galleries in London, and while we agree to a degree (of course Ginny on Frederick, Rose Easton, Xxijra Hii etc etc are the crème de la…) quite frankly we feel that there were several not insignificant oversights, the reasons for which we have expanded on in bullet point form below, in ‘spittle’s Brief but Forensic Correction to the Record Regarding London’s Best Young Galleries’ (obviously not all of them, if you want to be included in 2024 we are open to financial incentives).

Sherbet Green

  • Used to be Paradise Row, infamous haunt of David Cameron

  • Exhibitions exquisitely curated by Mazzy Mae

  • Situated in the historic (now revamped) Boris Bags shop building

Niru Ratnam

  • Only young gallery Louisa Buck will visit

  • Proof that the couple that curates together, stays together

  • Best written press releases in whole of London

Harlesden High Street

  • BBQs in the depths of winter

  • Shisha nights and constant drama

  • Ripping the traditional gallery structure to shreds

Woodsy’s

  • New-to-the-scene baby gallery

  • Industrial estate chic, DIY carpentry, sickening diamanté everywhere

  • Unhinged founder, often nude

Collective Ending HQ

  • Big installations +++

  • Hot bed of curators with diet coke addictions

  • Artist studio collective to boot

The Artist Room

  • Sensitive curation and understated vibes

  • Plaster magazine’s big brother

  • Lots of stairs

South Parade

  • Chicest paintings in Deptford

  • Evidence that insurance firms ARE the new curatorial traineeships for Gen-Z

  • First gallery to honour spittle with a press clipping of our reportage

Ridley Road Project Space

  • (RIP) We miss you

  • Please come back

  • Only made one sale but it was to Wolfgang Tillmans

Darren Flook

  • Freehouse gallery respawned in Fitzrovia

  • Oversharing on IG stories

  • Jealous he is Art Advisor for Sessions Arts Club

V.O. Curations

  • Unreal studio selects

  • Hard to tell who works there?

  • Illegal to not sign in at front desk

Trafalgar Avenue

  • Boujiest mouth-watering house-cum-gallery

  • Shows Garrett Pruter’s Birds <3

  • Dogs encouraged!

Dinner Party Gallery

  • Great name

  • Even greater graphic design

  • Less actual dinner parties than expected

🔴 ‘We are watching someone being worked to death in public…’ - Art Smack, Jerry Gogosian’s podcast is our current guilty listen! Last week she delves into the ethics of Kusama’s recent Louis Vuitton collab by way of a profile comparing the artist’s early, subversive and sexual works with her recent ‘penchant’ for commerce and collaboration.

👹 ‘a naked young woman tenderly offering her forearm to the bloody bite of a goblin-faced little old man with an infant’s bare behind’ - cult artist Sanya Kantarovsky gets the profile treatment in Artforum. Come to hear Barry Schwabsky compare himself to the ‘pitiful male homunculi’ in the artist’s paintings, and stay to learn about their interest in the Soviet-era satirical magazine Krokodil.

🚽 ‘Every home needs one thing and that’s a urinal in the kitchen’ - Found on architecture Twitter, Zillow Gone Wild is a treasure chest of the most bizarre and insane homes for sale in the USA. Alongside palatial modernist gems by the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright are McMansions with indoor caves, grottos and waterslides, toilet thrones, houses sprayed with foam to resemble white cliffs and even kitchens with urinals.

🥩 ‘Seed oils do not turn your blood into plastic’ - Some of you may remember last week’s parting shot, detailing how Joshua Citarella was ‘exploring “extremely online nutrition”’ & following a carnivorous diet for the month. Well, turns out he’s spent the last year experimenting with online body-’enhancing’ tactics in the name of research; here he explains where the left and right converge, and how self-designing our bodies is the final pit stop of postmodernism.

💀 ‘The CEO of Balenciaga’s parent company sells sickening child sex mannequins,’ - Yes, that is referring to work by The Chapman brothers, in a point explored for ArtReview by Tom Whyman who compares Balenciaga’s paedo-gate to Jake and Dinos’ gory & provocative body of work. Morality speaks through the market, Tom concludes, and unless you’re a conglomerate of mega rich conspiracy theorists there’s no chance you’re cancelling a blue chip artist… sorry.

Add-to-cart

With a contributor list including Charlie Fox, Cher, Sam McKiniss, Gaspar Noe, and Rachel Tashjian, this big book on dance looks like a groovy fun read. On The Dance Floor: Spinning Out on Screen is published by A24 and available here for $58

Happy fashion week! And we think this image of Borna Sammak speaks for the moment. If Borna’s happy, we’re happy. So if Borna’s vibing yellow Telfar, spittle’s vibing yellow Telfar xoxo
